On June 5, 2002, the Hays Larks pounded the Salina Blue Jays 11-0 in winning their season opener at Larks Park. Josh Shelton struck out seven in five innings to earn the win in the non-conference matchup. Leadoff man Rory Thornton had four hits and three runs scored, and Jeff Bieker hit two singles and a double, with a run scored.
